No. This is a product-direction tool. It helps compare the retrofit range before a separate energy or payback check.

Why does the current light feel matter?

If the room already feels too dim, the selection leans toward higher-output or better-distributed ranges. If it feels too bright, the result can move toward a softer or more controlled ceiling look.

When does a batten-style option make sense?

It is usually the practical path for service areas, corridors, warehouse spaces and older linear installations where durability and easy retrofit are more important than a decorative ceiling finish.

Is this suitable for healthcare or education?

Yes. Those applications are built into the weighting so the result can move toward the more believable panel, linear or protected downlight range for that setting.

What to check before replacing fluorescent lighting with LED.

A fluorescent-to-LED conversion should begin with the existing fitting, not just the lamp description. Record the luminaire type, quantity, lamp and ballast wattage, dimensions, mounting, circuit arrangement, emergency provision and any signs of heat damage or failed components.

The replacement should be selected for the room and visual task. Matching physical size alone does not confirm suitable light distribution, glare control, colour rendering or maintained illuminance.

Replace the whole luminaire where appropriate

A purpose-designed LED luminaire can provide a clearer warranty, tested photometry and a defined driver and thermal system. It also avoids retaining aged lampholders, wiring or control gear whose condition is uncertain.

Check ceilings and making-good

Panel apertures, suspension points, trunking positions and decorative finishes can constrain the replacement. Survey these details early and include adapters, pattresses, infill work or revised mounting arrangements in the project cost.

Keep emergency and controls in scope

Identify emergency fittings before removal and confirm how the new installation will be tested. Occupancy sensing, daylight response or DALI control may improve the upgrade, but compatibility, wiring and commissioning must be specified rather than assumed.
